Our story
The founders |
Héritage des îles was born in the heart of Martinique, at the crossroads of the Rabuchon and Cœur Bouliki forests on the land that our grandmother and her ancestors cultivated before us. She prepared her famous herbal teas for us "si an ka" ailments of life that she knew how to solve with plants.
Our grandmother Man Paulette was a farmer. At that time she would leave the countryside to walk to Fort-de-France to sell her harvest. She passed on this know-how to her children, especially to my mother Suzie.
Suzie is a retired civil servant. First at the town hall of Fort-de-France as an executive assistant and then in a community of communes in the finance department, she never stopped gardening. Every afternoon when she left work she checked the growth of the shrubs, the presence of insects or the appearance of fruits.
It was natural for her to take part in Heritage des Îles. It was Suzie who pushed us into this entrepreneurial adventure. Today, she is in charge of planting and harvesting within the company. And not only that, since she is at the origin of one of the creations of which we are most proud, the "cocoa nibs". This product was born when she decided to cut a clump of bamboo to plant more than a hundred cocoa trees. Suzie has made the family garden a Creole laboratory garden where she plants what she needs, loves and is curious. It is in this space that she in turn passes on to us her knowledge, her savoir vivre, her love of the land, her passion for plants, her taste for experimentation and her determination to face all challenges. She is our "poto mitan".
Pierre Charles helps Suzie maintain the garden. He also helps with cocoa processing, picking banana leaves to wrap the beans and roasting the cocoa. Passionate about computers, he is looking for the best software training courses to improve logistics.
Although her first name is of Polynesian origin, Maïmiti comes from Marie Galante of Guadeloupe and the Saintes. She graduated with a Master 2 in color and architecture from the Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg. She also received her knowledge and love of plants from her mother. Within Héritage des Îles she creates the compositions, prepares the orders, and sometimes even makes the deliveries. The other part of her time Maïmiti is a teacher of applied art at the Lycée. She fully participated in the creation of the labels and the website.
Jean-Marc is a designer. He has a social and ecological approach to the issues of his island. His latest project takes place in a mangrove in Martinique where he created works that appeal to the five senses of the human being in order to raise awareness among the population about the social and ecological issues of the place. Do not hesitate to take the virtual tour of the exhibition at the following address: https://www.
He joined the Héritage des îles adventure with the ambition of reinventing the Caribbean herbal tea ritual.
